Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby,
to be picked up and laid down
like a game of Solitaire.
It is a grand passion.

Barbara Messinger
Barbara Messinger is Cygnet Farm's schoolhorse lessons instructor.

Barbara began riding when she was nine, and in the late 1980s, she began taking lessons with Leslie Zock at the former Heather Hill Farm.

Barbara quickly progressed into jumping lessons, and before long she was managing Heather Hill's schoolhorse lesson program.

After Leslie's retirement and the closing of Heather Hill Farm, Barbara brought the schoolhorse program and her expertise to Cygnet Farm.

Barbara recently earned the designation of USHJA Certified Trainer, and she is one of only three trainers certified in the state of Oregon and one of only two in southern Oregon!

You may contact Barbara directly at (541) 261-0820.
Michelle Woolard
Michelle began riding at the age of eight, when she was allowed up on a family friend's dressage horse.

Though she pursued eventing throughout her adolescence, the seed was planted for a love of dressage, and she has focused solely on it for the past ten years.

She has three of her own horses, currently training and competing at First Level through Prix St. Georges.

Her primary interests lie in the development of both horse and rider through classical principles.

She offers lessons from basic seat skills to mid-level dressage work.

Michelle may be contacted at (541) 535-5492
Liz Denny

A veteran national level grand prix show jumping competitor and winner, Liz has been a professional rider and trainer since 1980. She came up  through the ranks as a successful junior rider in the hunter, equitation, and jumper divisions, training with Joe Lifto.  She pursued advanced instruction through clinics with George Morris, Rodney Jenkins, Conrad Homfeld, Michael Page, Victor Hugo-Vidal, Joe Fargis, Kathy Kusner, and Lindy Townley.  Working for the legendary Jimmy Williams and Susan Hutchison and Flintridge Riding Club in La Canada, California for a combined six years gave her invaluable experience and the impetus to start her own program some fifteen years ago.

Following the premise of "Serious Fun to Advance Horse and Rider", Liz enjoys working with all levels of riders wishing to improve and compete. While her program is geared toward showing,  all lessons, training and advancement are rooted in classic riding principles and solid foundation skills, achieved through correct horsemanship and targeted challenges. This dedication to doing things the right way is further emphasized by Liz obtaining the USHJA Trainer Certification designation* - one of only 18 in California, and now the 9th (and 2nd at Cygnet Farm!) in Oregon. Various levels of shows, including the 'A' circuit events , are utilized to develop and sharpen the skills of both the horse and rider, on the way to accomplishing their show ring goals.  Whether aspiring to jumper, working hunter, hunter derby, or equitation and medal classes, juniors, amateurs, and even young professionals will find the expertise they need to succeed within the Liz Denny system. No matter what level, students are held to a higher standard.  For Liz, seeing her students and their horses progress is the most rewarding of all.

Liz believes that learning is a life-long pursuit.  She continues to advance her own skills occasionally using a professional coach.  She also rides in clinics with such notable experts as Linda Allen, McClain Ward, and most recently with Richard Spooner in January 2011.

Liz offers top notch professional training, with numerous options to insure the best individualized program for horse and rider, including:
  • Full training for horse and rider
  • Horse Shows - various levels up to the 'A' circuit
  • Trailer-in lessons welcome
  • Coaching services
  • Accepting select prospects for training
  • Accepting select horses for re-sale/consignment

You may contact Liz directly to discuss her program and the opportunities to ride and train, or to schedule an evaluation.
